*Kids say the darndest things!!
I remember very clearly (in fact, I will not forget), the year face-cleansing sponges came to the U.A.E. Though I do not remember the brand that brought it in, I recollect the big ad campaigns that took over all the supermarkets. Of course I was curious about it, but didn’t think it was something I particularly needed – and so ignored all the hype.
We lived in Sharjah at the time and one Friday morning (our weekend), I found, along with our newspaper, a bag that had a small pack of complimentary face sponges. “Oh that’s fantastic! I’ll check it out right away,” I thought.
Now our oldest daughter Becca was around 4 at the time, and at an age when she chattered endlessly to any and everybody who would listen to her. So while a curious Becky watched fascinated, I followed the instructions on the bag and soon had a face full of foamy soap.
Just then our home phone rang, and off she ran to get it. I was looking intently in the mirror and only half listening to her side of the conversation.
“Hello”, she said. “This is Becca. Yes, mama’s here. No. She can’t come to the phone. She’s shaving her face!”
Oh noooooooo!! Before I could even yelp in horror, she slammed the phone down in her hurry to get back to the foam fun and I sat there frozen for what seemed like hours! You see, we had was no caller ID and, of course, Becca had no clue who had called!!
Now, over the years, this story has caused great mirth in our family, but I can tell you this. For several months after that day, I lived with the horror that every person I met was examining my face very carefully. 😉
And thirty three years later, I still have no clue who called. So, if it was you my friend, and the question still lingers somewhere… no, I do not shave my face! 😅
Oh, my dear sweet Becky! 💖
